Those of you who work with libraries or digital collections might be interested in a webinar this Thursday at 10 AM EDT I’m leading for the Association for Information Science and Technology.

Libraries have faced numerous threats in the last 30 years, including the migration of knowledge from paper publications to the Internet, decreased access to shared physical spaces during the pandemic, and budget gaps due to the potential shuttering of the IMLS and other public funding. This next transition could be the biggest yet, if the very ontology of knowledge changes from ground truth found in archives to a just-in-time paradigm generated by AI on the fly.

I’ll be reviewing five possible strategies for libraries dealing with the coming tsunami of AI generated content, from outright bans to “AI shelves” to community review. https://www.asist.org/meetings…/webinars/whoevenwrotethis
