The rapid integration of artificial intelligence technologies into educational systems across the United States presents unprecedented opportunities and challenges for policymakers, educators, and students alike. From AI-powered tutoring systems and automated assessment tools to concerns about academic integrity and algorithmic bias, the intersection of AI and education demands urgent policy attention and scholarly examination.

This special issue seeks to advance understanding of how AI is reshaping educational policy landscapes in the U.S., examining the promises and perils of these emerging technologies. We invite empirical research, theoretical analyses, and policy-oriented scholarship that addresses the complex relationships between AI technologies and educational governance, equity, and outcomes. The special issue will make meaningful contributions to the conversation about AI’s role in P-16 education in the U.S., providing scholarly insights that can inform more effective, equitable, and evidence-based policy decisions.
